Haiti - Cange in The Central Plateau

Haiti - Central Plateau

Since 1979, the Episcopal Diocese of Upper South Carolina (EDUSC) has been deeply committed to mission and ministry in Cange, Haiti.

In 1982, we partnered with Father Lafontant to build Ecole Bon Sauveur (EBS), the village's first and only access to education.

Population in Cange grew due to refugees from the 2010 earthquake so 2 additional schools - La Pleiade School and Emmanuel Kant - were founded. Each of these schools now enroll around 700 students and offer K-12 (Baccalaureate).
EDUSC's scholarship program now serves 5 schools.

In 2024, EDUSC approached Education Equals Hope (e=h) to help support these schools through Teacher's Salaries and feeding programs.

Together, we impact approximately 3,000 students in Cange and surrounding villages.

Major Challenges:
• Community origins & mission: Most schools were founded locally to meet urgent educational needs.
• Lack of infrastructure & resources:
Many schools struggle with insufficient teaching materials, inadequate facilities, and irregular teacher pay.
• Inadequate school meals: Meals are limited to rice, corn, peas, salt, and oil -lacking protein and essential nutrients.
• Governance & management: Strong local involvement exists, but schools need administrative training and support. We are addressing this need by hiring an Onsite Coordinator.

Our Priorities:
• Strengthen school feeding programs with balanced meals and reliable kitchen staff pay.
• Support teachers with training, salaries, and teaching materials.
• Invest in school infrastructure and learning resources.

Your gift provides HOPE and opportunity, helping children receive education, nutrition, and the tools to build brighter futures in rural Haiti.
