Ministry began in the Santa María Mission in the city of Esmeraldas on the coast of Ecuador in 1979. In 2018, with the arrival of Deacon Martha Inapanta, the Education Equals Hope program began. This program is an extension of the group of scholarships of the Cristo Liberador Mission.

The goals of the program are to reach children who do not have the economic resources to be able to study, especially since the program is located in a city in which many children and young people drop out of school. The drop-out rate is one reason that there is so much crime in the city.

In order to reach more children and young people, Martha travels up to 45 minutes from the city of Esmeraldas to the towns of Tahigue and Chaflu. Many people who belong to the Santa María Mission come from these settlements, and in order to help them, the program meets them where they are, offering the support of Education Equals Hope.
