Gualsaqui is a Quichua community 30 minutes outside of Otavalo. It is a rural, agriculturally focused area. The pastor, Luis Matango, noticed that one of the most important needs in the community was school expenses. Many children in the area did not go to school because of the difficulty of arranging transportation to and from the area. He heard about Education Equals Hope through a friend, and since then the church has worked with the scholarship program for nine years. Thanks to E=H, some of these children are now able to go to school. Several young people have benefited from scholarships and have finished high school.

Their desire is to be able to reach more kids with the scholarship program, as well as to see the kids who are currently in the program go to college and graduate. They strongly believe that when they return from studying in universities, as professionals, they will reinvest in improving the community.
